The Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE),[1] founded in 1989, is a learned society, an international, interdisciplinary academic professional association of scholars who are engaged in the studying of economy and economic phenomena from a social science interdisciplinary perspective. [2] [3]

SASE initially positioned itself as an alternative platform to neoclassical economics.[4] [5] Currently, SASE members come from a broad range of disciplines, including sociology, economics, political science, management, psychology, law, history, and philosophy.

SASE holds its own annual academic conference, the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics Annual Meeting. [6] [7] The 29th SASE Annual Meeting, with additional support from Fondation France-Japon de L'EHESS,[8] is held at Doshisha University in Kyoto, Japan, June 23-25, 2018. The theme is Global Reordering: Prospects for Equality, Democracy and Justice. The 30th, anniversary meeting will be held at the New School in New York, USA.

SASE's official journal is the Socio-Economic Review.[9]

History

SASE was founded by Amitai Etzioni in March 1989 at a meeting held at Harvard Business School.[10] Etzioni's 1988 book The Moral Dimension: Towards a New Economics[11] became the manifesto of socio-economics and laid the foundation for the creation of SASE [12]
