I am a first-year student at UW Bothell, majoring in Computer Science and Software Engineering. After graduation, I plan on working in the Mobile application development field, making simple phone applications for Androids.
Possible articles to research
edit1. Women in Computing – If I were to modify this article, I would find alternative reasons for the lack of women in computer science. Additionally, I would add more famous women to the growing list of famous women in Computer Science, and add relevant statistics where needed. Lastly, there have been complaints that some of the content is vague and there is more of an emphasis on recent history rather than having more facts from the beginnings of computing. To fix this, I could research the history of women in computing and add more details.
2. Information Age – It has been noted that there is no “Criticism” or “Future” section in this article. I’m not sure at the moment how I would implement “Criticism” because that seems like it could lead to being biased, however, I could look at other articles with a “Criticism” section and figure out the best way to do that. Also, I can look at other studies on the future of the information age and add more details.
3. Gender binary – The current article is very short and only links to external articles that refute the topic instead of other topics that are related. I would add more statistics on gender binary.
4. *Washington State Future Business Leaders of America – I was a State Officer for WAFBLA and therefore have some knowledge about the information that should go into a page about it (which has not been created yet) and people that I could talk to directly to gather the most recent information.
5. *Beliefs of Women in Computer Science – When I was doing research on GALE I found the phrase: “We can, I can’t.” This phrase is used by women in computer science who believe that there should be more support for women and as a whole we can accomplish a lot… however, alone we are not able to do a whole lot. I’d like to go more in depth about where this belief began.
6. *“Feminine” Gaming – This article would give a list of games that are tailored to women compared to the average games. What do computer scientists hope to accomplish by making games specifically for women? Is this biased? Are other games biased towards men? What are ways computer scientist have worked around making sure that these games are authentic and not stereotypical?
