Lost Classics This is my "Lost Classics list", aka "A list of albums which made little impact compared to other work by the same artist, albums which made little impact at all, and classics which have been all but 'forgotten' by the contemporary record buyer". Of course, because of notability this isn't going to include great but really obscure albums like the eponymous debut from Wheat. Altern-8 - Full On... Mask Hysteria (1992) AMG: "75 minutes of 1991-era mainstream rave". Exactly. A high energy hands-in-the-air classic! The Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (1989) In which the Boys show they can actually play, and in the process invent trip hop. Considered something of a commercial failure at the time. Bob Dylan - Shot of Love (1981) An oft-overlooked Dylan classic. George Harrison - Living in the Material World (1973) Turned a lot of listeners off because of it's deep religious message (preachiness, even), but they're missing out on one of the deepest, most heartfelt records from the Beatles' catalogue. Hawkwind - In Search of Space (1971) Heavy rock psychedelia, to be played very loud - but not too loud unless you want an invasion of zonked out bikers. The KLF - Chill Out (1990) Ground-breaking ambient house album and arguably a better listen than The Orb's Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld. Deleted in the UK. Rolls Royce - Olympus 593 Mk610 (1966) The sweet sound of Concorde taking off. Should have been on general release for another 20 years, of course, but the pride-free bureacrats deleted it. The Shamen - In Gorbachev We Trust (1989) Furious, scathing and deeply psychedelic. The Shamen at their most hardcore. Top-notch Live Albums Iron Maiden - Live After Death (1981) Pink Floyd - Pulse (1995) Spiritualized - Royal Albert Hall October 10 1997 (1997) Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous (1978) Wings - Wings Over America (1976) Ex-Beatles My favourite ex-Beatle recordings (not in any particular order). There are others I play (Flowers in the Dirt was a close contender, and of course there's Ringo, Imagine and John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band), but these are the albums currently guaranteed to put a smile on my face or a lump in my throat: The Fireman - Rushes (1998) George Harrison - All Things Must Pass (1970) George Harrison - Brainwashed (2002) George Harrison - Live in Japan (1992) George Harrison - Living in the Material World (1973) Paul and Linda McCartney - Ram (1971) Paul McCartney & Wings - Band on the Run (1973) The Traveling Wilburys - Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1 (1988) Various Artists - Concert for George (2002) Wings - Wings Over America (1976) Artists I've seen live There's so many I'll add a few at a time as I remember them. Bold means they were the headliner at their own show, the others were support acts or more likely at a festival such as Glastonbury. Italics means seen more than once. AC/DC All About Eve Beastie Boys Best, Pete Björk Blur Carter USM (many times) Dylan, Bob EMF Iron Maiden Levellers, The McCartney, Paul Motörhead Oasis Orb, The Orbital Public Enemy Public Image Ltd. Prodigy, The Pulp Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, The Starr, Ringo Status Quo (including The Frantic Four) Underworld ...I won't list every festival band, as there's too many. There's also quite a few I think I saw but I can't remember much about it. Such was the festival way of life I guess! Glaring omissions Artists I wanted to see, but I didn't grab the opportunity or I came of age just a little too late (1 or 2 few of this could yet happen): George Harrison - RIP Nirvana - I was at Reading Festival 92, doh, and heard their set Pink Floyd - still possible in theory, but I doubt it Queen - I saw the trio, at the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert The Shamen - technically possible but highly unlikely Spiral Tribe or any of the big free festivals really (e.g. Castlemorton) This user participates in WikiProject The Beatles.
