This is a proposed policy in development to regularize the names of pages on the subject of Egyptian deities in supercedence of Wikipedia:Naming conventions (common names). Due to problems of common names for Egyptian deities often coming from inaccurate Greek transliterations, often using sounds not used in Ancient Egypt, it is impossible for many Egyptian deity articles named as per WP:Naming Conventions (common names) to be accurate, well-written, and easy to understand at the same time. This policy requires that the English transliteration of the Egyptian name, rather than the English transliteration of the name given by Greeks or other groups, be used.
1. In articles about deities originating in Egypt, the English transliteration of the Egyptian name will be used rather than the English transliteration of the name used by a different group, particularly the English transliteration of another transliteration.
2. If there is more than one Egyptian name for the deity, the most commonly used name in known Egyptian literature will be used.
3. If the most common name used in Egyptian literature is uncertain, the most complete form of the names in question will be used. This means that if there is question about whether Asar or Asari is more common, Asari will be used. If one of these candidate names is not from the same root as the rest, it will be eliminated in favor of the most complete form of those with a common root.
4. The opening sentence will be formed as: "(English transliteration of the Egyptian name), commonly known as (common name),...".
5. The common name which would be used as per WP:Naming Conventions (common names) will be redirected to the name chosen as per this policy.
