About Me edit

I am a high school student, currently in my junior year. I am fascinated by science fiction novels, orchestral music, and cryptography. I am hoping to someday become a high school or college band teacher, a novelist, or a programmer (I've dabbled in C, C++, JAVA, and HTML).

The Challenge edit

For anyone reading this, I urge you to attempt to solve this encrypted message. If you can also tell me the encryption methods I used, then I will try to find some way to reward you. :p

Interests edit

As I said above, I am fascinated by a wide variety of things. My favorite science fiction novels include the Ender's Game series, along with the parallel Ender's Shadow series, and various Star Wars novels. I also like reading certain fantasy books, which includes almost all of R.A. Salvatore's works and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In the music world, I feel like I've found my calling. I am a great french horn player, even though I only started in November 2006, and I've been playing trumpet in my middle and high school bands for about 5 years; I also played clarinet for a few months and took piano lessons for a year and a half. I have been working on possibly composing music, but there are few music composer applications out for the Linux operating system. I've loved cryptography ever since I bought Elonka Dunin's book, "The Mammoth Book of Secret Codes and Cryptograms" last year. I am still amazed at how many ways there are to encode messages and at how difficult the Vigenère cipher can be to decode, yet it is easy to use. I have also been interested for a while in the theater and the "silver screen". My family has always told me that I am great at creating and imitating voices and accents to use. I haven't been in any big productions around my school, partially since I missed the auditions for Shakespeare's The Tempest earlier this year. I have had only one role that made it to the stage, and that was as a French waiter in the one-act play "Reservations", by Lisa Rand.

Future Plans edit

I am planning on going to UCF after I graduate, most likely majoring in music or computer science. I also want to someday go backpacking through Europe, maybe visiting Germany, Denmark, and Sweden while I'm there. As a career, I am thinking mostly of being a band teacher at a high school or university. I am also thinking of being a novelist (if I could ever finish any of the stories I've tried writing) or a programmer, possibly with video games.

My Username edit

My username came from a conversation over dinner not long after President George W. Bush was re-elected. My grandmother, who is extremely anti-Bush, went on a little rant about how Bush would probably try and make America a monarchy if he could. I added that to a nickname used for him.

I have used this username almost everywhere I have gone on the internet, and only one other person I can think of has used the same name anywhere. Many of my friends have shortened the name to KD, KingD, or King in conversation over the years.
