What is transportation?

edit

Transportation is moving people and goods from one place to another place. It is needed for moving people to school work, visiting relatives and going to other places.

People and goods travel by land air and water. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1yNgKeYM3k. [1] [2]

Modes of Transportation

edit

Land transportation

edit

Land transportation is the movement of people or goods from one location to another location on land. There are many different types of land transportations for example car, bus, truck, train, bicycle and bike.

Animals can also be used to transport people and goods on land. Some animals that are used as transportation are elephant, camel, horse and donkey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5xzT-bAjkJA [3]

Water transportation

edit

Water transportation is the movement of cargo or passengers through or across bodies of water. Some examples of water transportations are ship, boat, ferry, raft and submarine. The rafts are made from bamboo, which is light.  The rafts are made from bamboo. Rafts are usually used for recreational purposes and they move slowly by using a pole. Boats can carry cargo or people. Fishermen use boats for fishing. Ships are used to carry goods and passengers. Ships are also used for recreational purposes such a cruise. The captain sails the ship. Rafts, boats and ships float on water. If they overload they will capsize or sink. The submarine travels under the water. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5FuWuCkbJU [4] [5]

Air transportation

edit

People and goods travel by air via aeroplane, helicopter, rocket, glider and hot air balloon. Planes can taxi on a runway, take off or fly in the sky. They can move slow or fast, up or down, high or low, right or left. Planes can fly higher than helicopters, large planes fly the highest. A plane has a body, nose, flaps, wings and tail which have different shapes. Helicopters are also used for transportation; they have rotor blades which lift them off the ground and a tail which helps with steering; they can land in small spaces, whereas an aeroplane needs a runway helicopters can hover; that means they can remain in one place in the air. Hot-air balloons are commonly used for recreational purposes. A glider is a special kind of aircraft that has no engine and they are used for leisure activities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVH96z3fV2M

At the airport

edit

We go to an airport to take a trip or meet people who come to visit us. The airport is a busy place and many people work at the airport for example pilots, flight attendants, baggage handlers, check-in clerks, security guards etc. The pilot (male or female) flies the plane and is in charge. Baggage handlers load baggage onto the plane. Flight attendants look after the passengers and serve drinks and snacks to them. Check in clerks check passengers in, weighing and checking their baggage, issuing boarding passes and luggage labels, allocating seat numbers, asking security questions, and answering passenger queries prior to their flight. Airport security guards screen airline passengers and their clothes, using X-ray machines and other eleWhat is transportation?ctronic devices.

All flights have a special number and departure time; we must know which city and country we are traveling to. For safety, some things are not allowed on the plane, e.g. sharp objects or weapons.

When we board the plane there are safety rules, e.g. put away our bags in correct places and remain seated with seat-belts fastened. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jy88ejZrPWw&t=74s [6]

Emergency vehicles

edit

An emergency vehicle is operated under conditions and circumstances of danger to life and property.

Ambulances, fire trucks and police cars go very fast when they are needed in an emergency; they usually make

a loud sound from a siren so that people can move out of the way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt86V01A9QM [7]

Road Signs

edit

A road sign is a sign near a road giving information or instructions to drivers. Good drivers drive carefully and courteously and obey. We must obey road signs, for example STOP signs, traffic lights and pedestrian crossing. A pedestrian should raise his or her hands to alert drivers that they want to cross; when the vehicle stops they should look to the right, then to the left and to the right again; then cross when the road is clear using the pedestrian crossing. Traffic light a set of electrically operated signal lights used to direct or control traffic at intersections. On the traffic light red means stop, green means go and orange or yellow means slow. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PpEWVxNj2xo [8]
