I grew up in Reno, Nevada. After high school I moved to Sacramento, California, graduating from American River College and BS Computer Science from CSU Sacramento.

On January 10, 1986, the morning drive time announcers Dave Skyler and Rusty Humphries staged a management-approved stunt to initiate a format change. They locked themselves in the studio and refused to leave until management allowed them to drop the KPOP call letters and switch the format to album rock (which occurred six hours later).
