Hey there! I used to focus on articles about or related to Japanese music artists and actors, but I'm not making any more big edits or creating articles anymore.
I try my best to follow WP guidelines. But at times I just feel that a lot of the format rules are silly.
How shall I put this? I've become disillusioned with the English Wikipedia. I can understand a lot of things are in place for standardisation and to make things neat and accessible. But I feel like information is sacrificed for it. English Wikipedia formats aren't always suitable for articles related to Japanese pop culture.
Let's take for example the music discography format. Actual dates of release and the number of the release by chronological order are taken out of the equation. Releases are simply stated by year or release. In Japan, that's not enough. The actual date of release is pretty important as it's a significant factor in how the release performs on the charts. You can also tell if perhaps, "Oh, this is a summer single", as J-pop tends to have songs tied into the seasons. Of course one can click through to the release's own article, but that's assuming there is one. It's also more cumbersome to check intervals between releases.
The number of the release is also significant. For every new release an artist announces, you can be sure that every media outlet will state "This is so and so's _th single/album". This numbering goes some way in revealing how active the artist is, and for gauging how long you have not paid attention to this artist ("Wait, wasn't the previous single the 3rd one? It's 5th now?"). Making people manually count to get that number in a Wikipedia discography table is just silly.
That's just one of the points that annoy me. But basically, because of various exclusions of what is deemed to be insignificant information, I find myself going to the Japanese Wikipedia for information all the time whenever I need to look up anything even though English is my native language. I don't have the motivation to edit an encyclopaedia I don't find useful.
