The Right Reverend Dr. Thurgood Goodlove, the so-called Savedest man in the history of the Republican party, is a fictional character. He hosts a relationship advice web show called Good Good Advice. There are clips on YouTube as well as on the site GGA100.com. The show is, if not the first, certainly one of the first, to mix relationships with fundamental religious views. The Savedest man in the history of the Republican party is very judgmental and condescending as he rips the people who send in questions and dilemmas. He claims to be even more saved than Jesus. His website boasts that he has a longer sinless streak than even Jesus Christ! His show is full of extreme statements like this one.
The show has had three seasons. Originally the show was 30 minutes. After the first ten shows all subsequent shows have been only five minutes in duration. Originally the show had segments (What Would Jesus Do?, Which Way Do I Go? Which Way Do I Go?, Question of the Week (with grossly overblown numbers of responses from the prior week), and The Prayer Cypher. In the Prayer Cypher Goodlove would entertain a ridiculous prayer sent in by a viewer. Some of the prayers have been to hit the lotto and for a 5’2” man with no athletic ability to make it to the NBA. Since the show has been reduced to five minutes the segments no longer appear. The show now just deals with one viewer question per show.
The “Good Good” in the name of the web show (Good Good Advice) is a play on the end and beginning of his names thurGOOD GOODlove. The Right Rev as he is called, is an over the top fundamentalist, right wing, evangelical, Republican Tea Party preacher. The show, although a relationship show, pokes fun at both the extreme right and the extreme left. Many of the topics are pretty out of the ordinary situations, e.g., erotic vomiting, erotic defecation, polygamy, and incest.
Goodlove is extremely hard on homosexuals. Far too often the phrase, he doth protest too much, applies in these instances. Many of the most outspoken critics of the gay lifestyle are in fact battling feelings of homosexuality themselves. A couple of very high profile anti-gay pastors, Ted Haggard and Eddie Long were both involved in homosexual scandals. Haggard was caught up in a scandal with a gay male prostitute. Long paid a multi-million dollar out of court settlement to four young men who accused the pastor of sexual misconduct (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Haggard & blackamericaweb.com). Former U.S. Senator Larry Craig pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in connection to an arrest in a Minneapolis airport men’s room. Craig was taken into custody by a plainclothes officer investigating reports of lewd conduct in the men’s restroom at the airport (foxnews.com).
Goodlove’s outrageous statements, such as calling Islam a terrorist religion, are countered by the fictional character, the extreme left wing Mr. Braussau. The comments that appear on the screen blasting Goodlove are the comments of Mr. Braussau. When the Right Rev goes off the rails, which is of course what he does, Mr. Braussau counters those comments with snide comments of his own. When the Right Rev is gay bashing Mr. Braussau accuses him of being secretly gay himself due to his extreme concern and condemnation of homosexuality. Goodlove never responds to Mr. Braussau’s comments directly. The Right Rev will address them sometimes in later shows but not in the show that the comments actually appear in.
