Harvy Joy Liwanag is a Filipino medical doctor and a public health specialist who is currently a postdoctoral fellow of the United Nations University International Institute for Global Health in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His research has focused on decentralization of health systems and evidence-informed policymaking for health.
Education
Liwanag was awarded with a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship grant in 2015 and pursued his PhD in Epidemiology at the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) in Basel, Switzerland. He appeared in page 60 of the Swiss TPH Annual Report 2018.[1]
Career and notable achievements
Liwanag was one of the 50 Global Shapers selected from all over the world to participate in the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland in January 2015.[2] He was featured by the Asian Development Bank in 2015 for its "Changing Asia" series for his work on the control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.[3] The Swiss Embassy in Manila also featured him to promote the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships in 2017.[4] In 2020, he was cited by a number of media outlets in the Philippines for his contribution to the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.[5][6][7] In the same year, he also led a national virtual workshop for researchers in the Philippines on evidence-informed policymaking for health.[8] He has also appeared in a TV commercial[9][10] for Conzace, a popular multivitamin in the Philippines.
