User:Kelleykavanaugh/Night of Joy (band)

Night of Joy is a post-punk, D.I.Y.-rock band from Denver, Colorado. The band consists of Bree Davies (bass guitar), Val Franz (lead guitar/lead vocals), and Fez Garcia (drums) (of Denver’s Fissure Mystic, [1] Fingers of the Sun,[2] Bury My Bones, & 900 Ancestors). Night of Joy formed in fall of 2008 after a chance meeting between Bree Davies and Val Franz. The band included a series of local drummers from 2008 through June 2010 when Fez Garcia joined.

The band released their first EP in 2010, after 2+ years of playing house shows and Denver venues. Davies and Franz are involved in the local cassette-tape label Teen Pass Out. [3]

History

edit

Night of Joy formed in 2008 when bassist Bree Davies and guitarist Val Franz found they shared an interest in the biopic Control, a movie about Joy Division. [4] The band struggled to find a suitable drummer to fit their lo-fi sound for 2 years. Night of Joy took Germain Baca on their Spring 2010 tour, but afterwards Germaine left the group. After 2 years of swapping drummers the band finally landed a good fit with Denver's Fez Garcia. The final line-up opened the doors for Night of Joy to record their first EP Fortune Hunters in 2010, as well as tracks to be included on several compilation albums.
