Fanny M. Cheung (born October 3, 1950), in Hong Kong, China, is Professor of Psychology and Co-Director of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). Cheung supervises the governance of interdisciplinary research institutes as well as knowledge transfer at CUHK. She is the recipient of the APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology.[1]l

Biography

Professor Cheung received her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley, and PhD in Psychology from the University of Minnesota. Cheung conducts research in cross-cultural personality assessment, psychopathology, personality, vocational behavior, gender equality, and women leadership.

Cheung's work has impacted many people. One of her main goals is to help equality spread between genders, and make life easier and better for women, men and people with disabilities in Hong Kong. Her initiatives aim to help women gain confidence and become leaders. She lectures widely throughout the world, and has contributed over 200 academic publications. [2]

She has received many awards for her contributions, including the APA Award for the Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology in 2012. Another prestigious award was the Distinguished Leadership Award for Internationals from the University off Minnesota in 2003.

Research

Cheung is known for promoting the status of women through scientific research. Her interest in gender equality led her to start the Gender Studies Programme at the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1985.
