Bio
editAbout Me
editI am a current college student with the goal of having a future career in the Human Services field. I feel strongly about social issues and hope to applying my education to empower individuals and strengthen our community. I call the Pacific Northwest my home and take advantage of its beauty as often as possible with day hikes and spend a lot of time admiring wildflowers and fungi along the way. I am a parent to two humans, three animals and several houseplants. Over the past year I have started a hobby of propagating leaves and plant segments found for free.[1].
My Wikipedia Interests
editWikipedia has been instrumental in the research I have done throughout my education. Though I have not added or edited anything on the site myself, I look forward to learning more about the process and the importance of contributing.
Article Evaluation
editAfter coming across remnants of the Monte Cristo railway on some recent hikes near Mountain Loop Highway, I wanted to learn more about the history of the area. I visited the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: citations, age, structure, and completeness of the article.
Citations
editThe first section links to the Wikipedia articles for some of the locations and concepts mentioned, but none of the facts stated in that paragraph have references cited. The subsequent sections are cited well, though, with relevant newspaper articles about the construction, ownership, and written pieces promoting tourism for the railway. Additional historical information is credited to the Mountain Loop Conservancy.
Age
editHistorical information in the article is cited well with archived newspapers from the time and information from the Mountain Loop Conservancy. In the Railroad Legacy section, information about the current hiking trails that follow parts of the old railroad is cited with links to trip reports that are 2+ years old. Linking to the main trail page will ensure readers are informed about the latest trail conditions.
Structure and Completeness
editEverett and Monte Cristo Railway’s Wikipedia page covers its history from its construction, the transfers of ownership, various uses, and the difficult terrain and weather conditions that ultimately ended the railroad’s short time in operation. Some of the sections were broken down into sub-sections that go into better detail about the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway during a particular period.
Summary
editOverall, I think the Wikipedia page for the Everett and Monte Cristo Railway is good. It uses reliable sources to inform readers on the history and use of the railway. A couple citations should be updated and additional citations can be added to direct readers to information about the hiking trails that now exist where the railroad had in the past.
