Dr. Youssef Tahiri, M.D., M.Sc., F.A.C.S. is a pediatric plastic, reconstructive and craniofacial surgeon at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Beverly Hills, California. He is recognized as a world expert in microtia reconstruction.
Early Life and Education Dr. Youssef Tahiri was born in Casablanca, Morocco. He attended Mission Française – Lycée Lyautey before moving to Montreal at age 15 to continue his French baccalaureate at College Stanislas. He then graduated from McGill Medical School in 2008 and completed afterwards his residency in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at McGill University in 2013. He received his board certification for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. While attending Medical School, he also completed a Master’s Degree in Experimental Surgery at McGill University in 2008. Following his training at McGill, Dr. Tahiri completed an ACGME accredited pediatric and adult craniofacial surgery fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania.
Personal Dr. Tahiri lives in Los Angeles with his wife Hannah Victoria Tahiri. He has two siblings – an older sister who is a psychologist in Montreal and a younger brother who is a Thoracic surgeon in Toronto, Canada.
Career Dr. Youssef Tahiri is certified by the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada as well as the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. After completing his craniofacial surgery training in Philadelphia, Dr. Tahiri joined the division of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Indiana University where he routinely performed complex reconstructive, aesthetic and complex craniofacial procedures at the Riley Hospital for Children as well as the Methodist Hospital and Indiana University Hospital in Indianapolis. In 2016, Dr. Tahiri moved to Los Angeles to partner with Dr. John Reinisch, the founder of the Medpor reconstruction technique, at Cedars Sinai Medical Center to continue with his practice of microtia reconstruction. The polyethylene technique allows Dr. Tahiri to operate on children as young as three years old. This surgery is done in one day and requires no hospital stay, which shortens the recovery time. Dr. Tahiri has resounding success using this technique. Moreover, Dr. Tahiri specializes in the repair of cleft lip and palate, cranial deformities, craniosynostosis, congenital nevus’, vascular malformations and hemangiomas. Dr. Tahiri has been the recipient of many awards/ throughout his career, including Benjamin Shore Award, Ives Award and the Ker and Petrie Award. He was also the recipient of various research grants including the McLeod Scholarship grant, Beatty Scholarship Grant as well as Provost Graduate Fellowship Grant.
Publications As a world-renowned expert in microtia, Tahiri has published over 80 peer-review articles and presented his work at numerous regional, national and international scientific meetings. Ears Up Foundation Dr. Tahiri founded the Ears Up Foundation for children born with microtia and anotia, and associated hearing impairment. The non-profit organization provides opportunities for families with limited resources to receive state of the art microtia and atresia medical and surgical treatment. The foundation’s mission is to dispense fear, educate individuals and families about the condition, and by doing so, empower and create hope.
