“Ondangere” Katjiritja Mungendje (born 17 March 1925),and died on the 3rd of January 2006.He was buried at Otjombundja, with his great Grand-Father Aron Mungunda, who was the former Chief of the Mungunda Family in 1840. The Ovaherero Society has lost a very important and respectable person, as he was in charge of the Holy Fire at the historical house in Tuasis. Chief Hosea Kutako stayed at Tuasis but when he died, he left the house and the Holy fire in his hands.

“Ondangere” is someone who speaks to their ancestors at the Holy Fire, and then their ancestors pass the message to God. Veseevete said, You speak to the ‘’Ondangere” at the Holy Fire when you want wealth, marriage and anything that is in line with good luck. The Ovahehero and the Ovamdanderu children in South Africa remembered him as follows: “He was a non-sinner and had a great knowledge in behavior and activities of the Herero tradition, he was intelligent and always led a good example” (Namibian’s in South Africa, 2006).[1]
