Douvangus Nuras Golgo

Douvangus Nuras Golgo (Goduvian: 度汪 怒臨 古恭; born 30 Valax 964) is a knight anole and former racing-driver from Goduvia. He spent most of his racing career in Formula One, participating in 206 Grands Prix across fourteen seasons with Sabalco Racing, Zardan SD, Tounogis Arrida, Xarathina and Serpentina, achieving 1 win, 9 podiums and 514 World Championship points. Golgo also participated sporadically in sports car racing, entering the 24 hours of Vobiaeca in 1003 and again in 1004, and spent a single season in GT Urlexia in 1006.

He retired from racing in 1007 to pursue youth driver development, becoming principle driving coach at the Zardan Driver's Academy from 1007 to 1014. In 1015, he became team owner of Golgo E Racing, which raced in Formula E from 1016 to 1028.

Early Life

Golgo is born in Yegbu, Goduvia to a family of four children, of which he is the youngest. His father, Douvangus Haixong is a wealthy taipan banker, while his mother, Lidaya Ghetsun, is a university assistant professor. Golgo's older brother Douvangus Nuras Suna is a professional rally driver.

Golgo began karting at the age of 8. After briefly recovering from a hand injury, he began formal training in earnest in 977, winning several regional karting events between 977 and 979. In 980, he entered Goduvia Formula 4, earning a seat with the financially struggling Ezippha Team where he demonstrated his talent, winning three races and finishing the season in third. The following season, despite leading the championship after 6 rounds, the Ezippha Team went into administration and Golgo was out of a drive despite significant financial backing from his father. He made the jump to Formula Three racing in Sorgun, where he achieved moderate success at the Sorgun F3 Championship of 982 and 983 where he finished a respectable seventh and third, albeit achieving no race wins. He was subsequently noticed by Bulemani businessman Azadi Himla, the then team owner of Sabalco Racing Sapphire Formula One team, who offered the young talent a seat race seat for on the condition he placed top-three in at least one Formula Two season.

Golgo raced in Sorgun Formula Two for three season from 984 to 986, finishing 9th and 15th in two unimpressive seasons. The 986 season would prove a turnaround in form where he finish runner-up with four wins, thus, fulfilling his condition of finishing an F2 season in a top-three position.

Formula One Career

Sabalco Racing Sapphire (987–992)

Golgo joined the Sabalco F1 team in 987 only as a test driver, after Himla reneged on his conditional offer of a full-time race seat. Despite feeling slighted, Golgo did not take the dispute to court as he felt that "a testing role was better than nothing". Sabalco had four drivers for the 987 season, of which the 21-year old Golgo was fourth choice behind Suvelius P. R. Olon who was on-loan with Lamodia Colour Racing. Golgo would drive 1500km in the team's previous season's spare chassis of the SRS 86T. He took several weekends off to race in sports cars, with a part-time appearance in GT Vasuria.

In 988, Golgo was once again not offered a full-time race seat for the team, with delphinid driver Heredas Gephyreus Brycon taking the second seat. A string of poor results for the dolphin, however, saw him dismissed from the team a few days before the start of the sixth round at Garchus. Loaned-out Olon was meant to fill Brycon's seat, but unbeknownst to Sabalco, Alaënus Lamodia (the new successive owners of Lamodia Colour Racing) had bought out Olon's contract. Golgo was hastily rushed in to fill Brycon's vacant seat, where he officially debuted at the Garchus Grand Prix. Golgo qualified an impressive ninth, a full second behind polesitter Nucidius Haegisius Hoedrax of the Imperial, and two-tenths quicker than his more experienced teammate, Aedianus Coxo. In a rain-affected race, Golgo drove the car conservatively to finish in points-paying seventh despite a eight-car pile-up in the first lap and an hour-long red flag session. A few days after the race, Golgo signed a two-year full-time contract with Sabalco, becoming the team's official second driver. He finished the 988 season a respectable sixteenth, with 6 World Championship points to his name.

Sabalco introduced the SRS 89 for the 989 season which proved to be a a more competitive package in both qualifying and race. While both drivers equally struggled with the car's unwieldy handling model, Golgo suffered the most from bad luck, retiring from four potential podium finishes all due to mechanical issues. Despite finishing the season with 9 points (in comparison to Aedianus Coxo's single shock race win and plentiful points finishes), Golgo was retained for the 990 season.

Except for some minor reliability upgrades, the SRS 90 found itself in the lower-midfield again. Golgo scored points in Casaldium and Ka'akani, but suffered a season-ending crash at the Rixopolis Grand Prix after tangling with the Honor F1 car of Giridius H. S. Fominex on lap 18 which saw both cars flip and tumble over an armco barrier. Golgo was rushed to hospital unconscious with a broken tibia and a collar bone.

Golgo would return to full-time racing for the 991 season. The season started strong with points finishes at Azam, Bulema and Casaldium. He regularly outqualified his teammate, Nucidius Altigaridus Paecino. The car was a solid lower-midfield car, finishing in the points sparingly. At the final round of what would become a highly controversial Xantiphon Grand Prix, Golgo was given the black flag on lap 39 when the stewards found him to have jumped into his spare car prior to the start of the formation lap. While entering the pits to retire from the race, title challenger Achryxies of the Hovonian, crashed into the back of a slow moving Golgo, handing the win to Aedianus Coxo of the Dazokan who finished fourth, sealing the championship for the lion. Golgo was fined 15,000 Ð for driving too slowly into the pits.

992 saw a significantly weaker SRS 91 as car development slowed amidst financial strain. Golgo would not score a single point until the tenth round at Narcelus, where he finished a solid seventh. He was regularly outperformed by teammate Ongaronga, but managed to score a surprise second-place finished after a chaotic Simigori Grand Prix. Golgo finished the season in sixteenth with 14 points to his name. He was subsequently dropped from Sabalco, and out of a drive for 993.

Zardan Super Drive F1 (993–996)

A month before the start of the 993 season, second driver Zeangus Cienton Dogatan of Zardan Super Drive F1 team announced his transfer to the Vedaso Sporting Front, leaving the team scrambling for a replacement. The team eventually contacted Golgo who was out of a job, to which the latter signed without hesitation despite a significant pay cut.

993 would see Golgo's most successful season, with the anole scoring four podiums and a fifth place finish in the World Drivers' Championship with 199 points. He also landed his second career pole position, and first fastest lap at the seventh round of the Gyrostia Grand Prix.

The team's competitiveness improved for the 994 season, with Golgo putting the ZD92 on the podium at the Ka'akani Grand Prix. However, his new teammate, Cynaemio Zitaro regularly outqualified and outscored him, including a single win at the Garchus Grand Prix. Golgo would finish the season in 10th with 64 points to his name.

The 995 season saw the team introduced the ZD93 which suffered from chronic understeer. A lacklustre season saw Golgo match his previous season's points tally of 64, albeit falling to 12th place in the standings.

Golgo's form dipped dramatically in 996, failing to score a podium in any race. At the 13th round of the Zardan Grand Prix, Golgo announced that he would be departing from the Zardan team at the end of the season. A month later, Golgo signed a three-year contract with Tonugis Arrida with the stated promise of first-driver preference.

Tonugis Arrida (997–999)

Golgo was paired with canine racer, Varcus Fillas Tidrina for the 997 season. The Opam-based outfit turned up to Baeticia in the TNS A97 which proved to be surprisingly competitive in qualifying. In a sensational qualifying performance, Golgo put the A97 on provisional pole, only to be beaten 0.124s by Ferox Seringola driver, Genotas Phyastro. Golgo started P2, while his teammate Tidrina started in P5, two-tenths down from the knight anole. However, the Baeticia race start would end in disaster for Tonugis Arrida as both cars were taken out on the first corner by the other Ferox Seringola driver of Xalinidus in a multi-car pileup.

At next round of the Azam Grand Prix, Golgo qualified an impressive third, and this time, drove his car into a spectacular second place finish in a rain-effected race. This was followed by three consistent consecutive points finishes the following races. While the team's competitiveness was eventually challenged as other midfield teams began to out-develop them, Golgo regularly drove the car into higher than expected finishing positions. Golgo finished the season in 11th, with 62 championship points.

The team introduced the TNS A98 for the 998 season, essentially a carbon-copy of the previous year's car with a few aerodynamic changes. The car's improvements were negligible compared to their immediate rivals, and Golgo was unable to quality higher than seventh all season. The season's highlight was Golgo's shock win at the Narcelus Grand Prix, a race of attrition with several top-running cars crashing out or spinning off during a sudden downpour. The knight anole would finish a respectable 11th in the drivers' standings with 56 points.
