About me

Hello, my name is Kaitlynn Bridgewater! I am 18 years old and currently attending my second quarter at EvCC. I am currently playing for their softball team. Softball has always been one of my favorite things to do and I have been playing since I was 5. Softball is a sport that requires multiple skills which in the end, provides total body conditioning. My other hobbies include really art, doodling for fun when I have the time and spending time with my family. As of right now I am interested in either physical therapy or something to do with marketing. I am excited to continue my education and hopefully learn more about myself along the way.

My Wikipedia interests

Wikipedia will be a good source for me to use throughout school. With Wikipedia, my goal is to be able to get a better understanding of how it is set up and reading different pages for educational purposes. In the future, I will use my Wikipedia page for resources and a common place to research and keep the quarters newfound information organized. Thank you for visiting my user page!

Article Evaluation

Throughout this quarantine I have been interested in getting deeper details about places I loved travelling to before Covid-19 broke out in our country. One of the places I always love travelling to is the islands of Hawaii, especially Maui. I find it very interesting to discover the history of the island and culture before it became such a popular tourist location. I visited the Hawai'iloa article on Wikipedia, and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: if each fact cited has an appropriate and reliable source, if the article is up to date, and if the article itself is neutral.

Appropriate and Reliable Sources

While reading through this article, I saw that every subtopic had at least one source linked to where the person found the information. I clicked on every source and each link brought me to a page or website that is still able to be viewed and was full of information. Throughout the article, each sentence that mentioned something specific like a name, location, or event was accompanied with a highlighted link so more information could be found if interested. One thing that caught my attention was the first subtopic, "Legendary Navigator". One of the paragraphs states that the writers cannot be sure that the tale they are writing about it is completely true. The writers also stated that the information being given was only based on later sources from antiquarians and not from original Hawaiian sources.

Up to Date Information

The article had sources given for every paragraph. The oldest source that was cited was from 2006 and was retrieved in 2007. The rest of the sources given were accessed and cited throughout the year of 2020. When I clicked on all the sources provided, each link took me to still active websites and pages where I could find the information for myself. This page was updated and edited all within the past year. This gives the page more credibility if it's coming from more recent sources and ideas.

Neutral Article

Throughout this entire article, everything stated is information that was found in the resources. No opinions about people, events, or locations were given, making this article educational and not something that can persuade the reader. Nearly every sentence had something cited in the resources or had a highlighted link where more information could be found. This article stated facts about the history of the tale and all the details that went along with the tale based on real cited sources and not personal stories or opinion.

Overall, this article is cited with appropriate and reliable sources, is up to date, and is neutral based on my evaluation. Each paragraph has cited sources and highlighted links, sources and links that are mostly from the past year, and gives no personal stories or opinion. This page is one that I would use for educational purposes and is something that I would be willing to refer back to and dive deeper into in the future.
