With the Maryland Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence Program, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) recognizes 11 elementary or secondary schools each year on the basis of their outstanding leadership, teaching environment, curriculum and instruction, student environment, parent and community support, indicators of success (including student and school performance assessments), and organizational vitality.[1]
