He has been with the band since its inception in 2002. He was the former guitarist of Mervilles. His birth name is Yuu Shiroyama. While he has only composed a handful of the GazettE's songs, Aoi is responsible for most of the love and sex lyrics, (such as Filth in the Beauty). Several songs deal with specifically Japanese issues, such as People Error(which the vocalist Ruki wrote).
