Johnny Focal is the alter-ego of film producer Jon Thompson. The name came about when he was working in a film work shop in Birmingham called Wide Angle in the late 1980's. It was commented that his verbatim film knowledge was like a Focal Press film book. The nick name was born Johnny Focal. In the social media world he decided to use it as reference to the social environment of the film Work Shop which encouraged discussion on film and social issues of the day.
In 2013 Jon Thompson is producing Cuban Soul a film shooting in Cuba follow the journey of David Soul to restore Ernest Hemingway famous American Chrysler New Yorker car. Fought not only by the US blockade but by Cuba's own bureaucracy Soul discovers not only does he have to deal with these issues but has to come to terms with himself in the process.
