I created my own photographic 'special effects' in the early 1960's, my technique was a different form of 'painting with light' using projection photography. I created the first Kodachrome transparency that had a positive portrait blended with a negative image of a tulip. This study was titled 'Spirit of Spring' and it was the first colour picture to win the London Salon Trophy in 1967. Kodak organised a number of one-man exhibitions of my photography in New York and in London. I have an article 'Photographic Special Effects - The Magic Lantern' where I fully describe how to do it, with lots of examples, such as; projecting through crystals, using reflections, masking and textures, and projecting on to a variety of objects rather than on to a screen. All my studies were created without any darkroom chemistry, or computer software, I used film and mostly Kodachrome. https://www.jncohen.net/photmagi/cg030001.htm
