Phillip Cancilla (born October 28, 1986) is an American drummer and multi-instrumentalist. He is most known for extreme drumming and is the drummer and a primary song writer for the Las Vegas band Misericordiam. He is the live drummer for Hank Williams III[1] since 2012. He has contributed and is associated with acts such as Narcotic Wasteland, Malevolent Creation, Incinerate, Aegaeon, Zorakarer, I Enclave, Antagony. He is endorsed by Ddrum[2]and Axis Percussion. His drumming influences are Neil Peart, Bill Bruford, Terry Bozzio and Phil Collins, Vinnie Paul, Nick Menza and David Silveria.

with Misericordiam (2004 - 2008, 2023 - Present)

Cancilla is a founder, drummer and song writer for the Las Vegas band Misericordiam. The band was active from 2004-2007 and then reactivated again in 2023. He has drummed on and cowritten songs on all of the bands releases.

with Hank Williams III (2012-Present)

In 2012, Cancilla joined Hank Williams III's band '3 Bar Ranch'[3] as a touring drummer, replacing drummer Joey Gonzalez from Phil Anselmo and the Illegals. Rehearsals for tours took place at Hank's "Haunted Ranch". Cancilla has played 100+ shows with the band up until Hank's hiatus in 2014. Hank3's last live performance was October 6, 2014 at the Ogden Theater in Denver, Colorado. Cancilla is the last drummer to perform live with Hank.

with Narcotic Wasteland - Delirium Tremens album and Tour (2017)

In 2017, Cancilla played drums on Narcotic Wasteland's album 'Delirium Tremens'[4]. Narcotic Wasteland is the band of former Nile vocalist and guitarist Dallas Toler Wade. The album was mixed by Neil Kernon and released through Megaforce Records[5] in October of 2017. Drum tracking was done by engineer Ryan Wechta at Vegas View Recordings. Following the release of Delirium Tremens, Cancilla drummed on a 30+ day tour across US and Canada[6]. This was Narcotic Wasteland's first shows and tour. Narcotic Wasteland's first live show was October 21, 2017 in Greenville, South Carolina. Cancilla exited the band in December of 2017.

with Malevolent Creation - The 13th Beast album and Tour (2018-2020)

In November 2017, Cancilla joined Malevolent Creation.[7] He was one of three new members to join the band at that time. He was connected to Malevolent Creation guitarist and founder Phil Fasciana by mutual friend and former Malevolent Creation vocalist the late Brett Hoffmann.

In 2018, Cancilla played drums on the bands thirteenth album 'The 13th Beast'.[8] The drum session was done at S.B.S Studio in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In six days, Cancilla tracked drums for 18 songs, 13 of which were used. Of those 18 songs, three of them were written by Cancilla but were set aside for a future EP[9]. Cancilla tracked both guitar and drums on all three songs.The 13th Beast was released on January 18th, 2019 through Century Media Germany and in the United States through M-Theory Audio.[10]

From January to February 2020, the band completed two tours and a US show. The first tour was a three day mini tour of Europe consisting of Rome, Malta and a headlining show at XXXapada Na Tromba Festival in Lisbon, Portugal. The second tour, was the '13th Beast Over Latin America' tour[11] and was 14 shows with the last show being in Miami, Florida. The Miami show would be the bands only US show with the 13th Beast lineup and first show in the states since the band originally disbanded in 2016. Cancilla's last performance with Malevolent Creation was on February 9th, 2020 at Churchills in Miami, Florida.

with Incinerate - Sacrilegivm album (2019)

Cancilla played a one-off show with the Minnesota death metal band Incinerate at the Amsterdam Bar and Hall in St. Paul, MN on October 19, 2019.[12] Following the show Cancilla joined the band officially replacing drummer Darren Cesca. Between late December of 2019 and early Jan 2020, Cancilla tracked drums on the bands forth album 'Sacreligivm'[13]. He worked on demos for the band while rehearsing for two upcoming international tours with Malevolent Creation. Drum tracking was done with Juan Urteaga at Trident Studios in Pacheco, CA. The album was released via Comatose Records on October 9th, 2020.[14] [15] Cancilla exited the band in 2020 after the recording session.

with Nargaroth - (2015, 2022)

In 2015, as a studio session musician, Cancilla co-wrote, tracked drums and played some guitar on an unreleased record for the German band Nargaroth. The session sat idle until it picked back up in 2022. In 2022, the band signed to Seasons of Mist records and Cancilla returned to retrack drums for the record at Skeleton Key Recordings in Las Vegas, NV with engineer Ryan Wechta.The album has no release date but there is an update about its progress[16] on the Seasons of Mist website and the Nargaroth Facebook page. Cancilla has not played any live shows with band.
