Malema in court today

JOHANNESBURG – Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema’s lawyers have not yet been given a copy of the charge sheet, they said yesterday. “We have not received a copy of the charge sheet, neither have we seen a warrant of arrest with any details of the case,” Brian Kahn Inc (BKI) attorneys said in a statement.

“We therefore cannot speculate on its contents.”

BKI said Malema found out on Friday that he would have to appear in the Polokwane Regional Court today.

“He was informed on Friday, 21 September, 2012, that the investigating officer, Colonel William Mahlangu of the Hawks division of the SA Police Service (SAPS), required his attendance in Polokwane.”

Malema had repeated his offer to co-operate with the investigation, including agreeing to appear in court without the need to arrest him, BKI said.

The lawyers did not yet know what time Malema would appear today.

An arrest warrant for Malema was issued on Friday.

City Press reported that Malema faced charges of money-laundering, corruption and fraud relating to his Ratanang Family Trust and its shareholding in On-Point Engineering, a company which allegedly made millions from Limpopo government tenders.

BKI said that due to the intense local and international media interest in Malema’s case, it would set up a website dedicated to the case. – Nampa-Sapa --John(211013307) (talk) 08:44, 4 October 2012 (UTC) [1].
