Otsalindi is a village situated in Ongandjera, Okahao constituency. The village has + - 300 residents. Otsalindi is a greeny place, good for farming. the village in the past has not used to be flooded unlike these years. Many people who live in this village a farming and working in the field for Mahangu, maize, and beans. The village has a quality fertilized soil and residents are feeding their families well. Since the soil has still enough manure, food are plenty like, watermelon, nuts, fish, sugarcane and many more. During summer time some villagers do gardening.

River

edit

Otsalindi village is sounded by a river called (Otamanzi) the one connected to Kunene river. The river has been a good achieve to the villagers because it bring fish. The river hold water for long animals could survive drought for period of time. Until when the rain has become more every year that it does not dry. Since the water has been continuously rising then village has become flooded. Otsalindi villagers have been suffering mostly during the rainy seasons. If the river got flooded, villagers have no way to pass to go to clinics, school, church, town all the ways of getting out of the village have just been blocked.

River

edit

It was reported that animals have been suffering too. Many animals have died because of flood [1]. Some villagers have been in drought because their crops are destroyed by heavy rain and flood. According to [2] the cause of the flood in the village is the three dams that are in the village next to each other and have been getting full to their estimated levels. The dam cannot hold more rain water because they are ever full. These dams are the causes of of flood since they flow water back into the village.

Otsalindi Dam

edit

The dams were dag many years ago. The reasons for the dams were to hold water for a period of time. During the rain season the dams would hold fish and the villagers will feed their families. Another reason was for domestic use animals to drink water. The dams have been a good attract to nature. It attracts the rain, birds and other wild animals in the area. Animals have been drowning because of the flood water in the dam. The birds are destroying the villagers crops mainly mahangu and sorghum. Year 2012 it was reported two boys have died because of flood. The bodies were recovered after three to four days in a village lagoon 50km away.

Solutions

edit

According to [3] the dams need to be raised up with concrete sand. The three dams need to be connected to pump out the water from the dams back to the river streams [4].

Shopping Center

edit

There are few shops in my village where one could buy the first aid items such as recharge, salt and others. My village is next to the church, clinic and council offices at Otamanzi.

Transportation mode

edit

In my village we use to ride donkeys and donkey card for travel to different place. Bicycles are few and are only used for urgent matters. Cars are very few and one needs to make appointment before travel. Car’s travel payment is very high compared to other transports.

What I like more about my village

People are friendly and caring. Villagers are welcome all visitors from around the world. What hurt one in the village hurt all and it is very good practice. The village is developing; it has electricity and mobile network unlike those years. During the time of working in the field none need to look for the crops not to be destroyed by animals because all the fields are well covered with a wire fence.

But there are few things I did not like about my village. Children at my village do not like school much. Some prefer to stay home work in the field then going to school. Girls are falling pregnant at young age. Boys leave school for months to stay at the farm with the cattle.

Johanna is inviting you to come and visit her village. Come December when I will be around and tour you around my village. I will take you to place in my village that you never seen before and explore the beauty of nature. Otsalindi welcomes everyone
