Landana (Lândana,[1] Concelho de Cacongo,[2] Malemba,[3] or Molembo[4]) is a municipality in Cabinda Province, Angola. Its principal town is Cacongo. Landana lies on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, adjacent to Landana Bay.

Origin of Landana's Name

Landana is a Ibinda word or Fiote that means in Portuguese: succession or sequence. In the past lived on this place a boss of the tribe known like " MFUMO KANDA ",that was very cruel. he had slaves in your favor and when he gave in the Real it yelps, it killed them without apparent reason. Said in Ibinda or Fiote it will be in the following way " Lanana Tuala Landana ".[5] In the last time that the boss of the tribe ordered to take a slave sentenced the death to the place of the usual execution, he slays rioted him and resolved he kept him in silence, without letting to foresee the plan that had. Arriving the edge of the hole and pushed the slave held on to his owner firmly like this the boss of the tribe have together rolled to the bottom of the cliff where both found the death. Like this the form sequential in that the people were killed in that dark place it is said in the language Ibinda or Fyote Landana(bau-bama ka landananga). is because, what prays the history on the appearance of the expression that of the name our beautiful villa of Landana, headquarters of the cacongo municipal district.[6]


History

At the time of the arrival of the Portuguese in the 15th Century it was populated by the Kongo people and was the major portion of the Kingdom of Kakongo.[7]
