Jonathan Larson Grants The Jonathan Larson Grants is a program of the American Theatre Wing(ATW). The grants honor the legacy of Jonathan Larson, the Pulitzer Prize-Winning composer of the musical Rent, and awards grants to emergingmusical theatre composers, lyricists and book writers. According to ATW, "The few grants Jonathan Larson received boosted his professional confidence so that he could pursue a career writing for the musical theatre. Today, each of the Jonathan Larson grants are awarded to an artist to recognize and showcase their work with no strings attached - except to put it to the best use possible to help further the artist's creative endeavors."

The Program became part of ATW in 2009 after twelve years as part of the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation with a gift from that foundation to establish it in permanently at ATW.

Grants are presented each year at a presentation celebrating the work of that year's recipients.
