Rodman Schley

Rodman Schley is president and founder of Commercial Valuation Consultants, Inc., a leader in commercial real estate appraisal services and valuation solutions throughout the state of Colorado. CVC is known for providing the highest quality commercial appraisals, at reasonable fees, on-time all the time. Since the company’s inception in 2002, Commercial Valuation Consultants has grown at an average annual rate of over 50% per year, and currently employs over 25 people within the Denver metropolitan area and in Carbondale, Colorado. CVC is currently expanding into the Arizona market with a new office opening in Scottsdale.

Early Life

Schley was born on Oct. 22, 1969 in Huntington Beach California, and subsequently moved with his family to Lexington, Nebraska in 1972. He was the oldest child in a split family that consisted of one sister, one half-brother, one adopted brother, one step-brother and one step-sister. His father, David J. Schley, is a life-long educator and is currently a superintendent of schools in Nebraska. His mother, Sherry Schley, worked in various capacities in the business community in Kansas City, Missouri. Step-mother Mardy Schley has also worked in the Nebraska school system in various roles and administrative capacities.

Schley attended Maple Woods Community College in Kansas City, Missouri, where he received his General Associates degree in Business in 1992. He then attended Bellevue University in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing Management in 1995.

In 1989 at the age of 18, Schley obtained a real estate brokerage license, formed Real Estate Investment Group and practiced the art of buying and selling repossessed real estate while attending college. In 1993 he wrote the book Finding Your Fortune in Repossessed Real Estate, which was published in 1994. In addition to his book, he has authored numerous articles for various regional and national magazines and newspapers. He has been a guest real estate expert on numerous radio shows, and has been a guest speaker at numerous speaking engagements throughout the United States.

In 1998, Schley moved to Denver, Colorado. In the midst of a thriving economy, the foreclosure market in the Denver Metropolitan area was nearly non-existent; therefore, he focused on commercial real estate appraisal. In May of 1998, he accepted a commercial real estate appraiser position with DYCO Real Estate. While with DYCO, he accumulated the hours, education and professional experience to obtain a certified general license. In 2008, he received his MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute.

Schley was married on June 3, 2004, to Gina Costanzo Schley. They have two children. Schley is an avid reader and writer, and enjoys playing ice hockey and Texas Hold-em.

Businesses

On March 1, 2008, Schley purchased the franchise rights for Marco’s Pizza for an 8-state region. Marco’s Pizza has nearly 300 stores nationwide, and is headquartered in Toledo, Ohio. In addition, he currently owns three Marco’s Pizza franchises in the Denver Metro and Northern Colorado area (Arvada, Broomfield and Fort Collins). Operating under the name The Big Cheese Inc., this organization was formed to oversee the development and growth of the Marco’s Pizza brand in Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, New Mexico, Arizona and portions of Iowa and Texas. These restaurants and organizations employ over 125 people.

Schley is also the president of 9-Ball Studios, which is a web, print and video production company. 9-Ball Studios was formed in 2006. 9-Ball produces a reality television program entitled, Urban Conversion, in which Rodman is the host. The show is about a conservative city-slicker businessman who seeks extreme green situations in his quest to reduce his carbon footprint, and learn about living off the grid. The Urban Conversion began to air on PBS in the fall of 2012.

Urban Conversion

Urban Conversion is a phrase that was coined by Host Rodman Schley, as a modern day movement that focuses on creating modern day green lifestyles in urban environments. Urban Conversion is a television show that provides green solutions for urban dwellings and communities. Urban Conversion is a program on PBS, produced by 9-Ball Studios, in which the host Rodman Schley travels the country putting himself in the most "extreme green" projects, to learn about how we can all make changes to save our planet. The show premiered with 3 episodes in the Fall of 2012. The series is expected to continue into 2014.

Urban Conversion was created based on the actual life of the Schley family. Rodman's wife is an environmentalist, who was always pressing Rodman to reduce his own carbon footprint in both his home, and throughout his businesses. Not knowing anything about being more environmentally friendly, Rodman set out to learn what changes he could make in his daily lifestyle, to be a better steward for the environment. In doing so, it became immediately obvious that he had a long way to go. Throughout his learning experiences the phrase, "if this idiot could do it, anyone could do it" was born. Rodman discovered quickly that the green, environmentally friendly methods he was learning should be shared with others, in order to educate them how they too could reduce their carbon footprint. Thus, a PBS television show was born.
