The Fuckin' Legends is an Australian dance music band originating from Windsor Gardens, Adelaide. The band has achieved minor underground notoriety for their songs "Dance Machine", "The Osama Song", "O Billy" and "Ha Hey!". From their first album "Kick Your Arse".

The Fuckin' Legends emerged with a dancecore sound on their first album, but later changed their musical style into a more thrash dance approach with "Short Attention Span" collaborated with MC Shillie. The band themselves have received much credit for their local indifference and were most notably proclaimed as one of the leaders and key bands in the New Wave of Australian Thrash Dance and were featured as third place on Ultimate Keyboard's Top Ten Bands of the Week. They are currently in production of their third studio album. During the end of 2009 the death of their good friend and founding member, Matthew "The Shil" Shilcock was announced.

Band History

edit

Inception (2001-2004)

The band was formed in 2001 in Jizm's Mum's Laundry, Holden Hill with original members J. Dogsmack, D. Bird and The Shil. J. Dogsmack came up with the name as a reference to the story of their lives, although they are not a good band. Upon its formation, each member of the band also took on a pseudonym which were already nicknames of theirs from high school. Before the release of their debut album, the band recorded two demos in 2001. The Fuckin' Legends' debut album, Kick Your Arse, was recorded when the band members were just fourteen years old and in vocational college. It was originally released on their first label, Windsor Gardens Records in 2001. After lead synthesizer Skittles joined the band, at the end of 2001 when he was 14 at the introductory track "Intro" was re-recorded featuring a full band element. The album was subsequently re-released on the same label in late 2001. The band started to receive recognition, performing with bands such as MC Shillie & DJ Jiz and Wiese Teufel and playing on the Can't Be Stuffed Tour. Having settled on their fourth member, Skittles, they released Short Attention Span on Jillshil Records in August 2003. The band received profiles in the Messenger and the Local Messenger, and played in the Laundry. In 2004, The Fuckin' Legends toured again in the Laundry and recorded a video for their song "O Billy" which went into rotation on RAGE. Shortly after the release of Short Attention Span, The Fuckin' Legends left Jillshil Records and were signed to LizBuff.

Break-up and subsequent projects (2004–2007)

On October 18, 2004, Bird released a statement announcing his departure from the band. He said, "I feel that it is now necessary to leave The Legends because i am simply a god now and no longer a legend". The band's final studio album, Short Attention Span, released before the band's dissolution, was a collection of comedy rap as diverse as Eminem to 50 Cent. Short Attention Span achieved double platinum status a day later. The following week saw the release of another live video, Fat Chicks 'N' Skinny Bitches, and 2005 saw the release of a live album titled Live back in The Laundry, an edited recording of the band's final two concerts on September 12 and 13, 2004 at the Laundry at Holden Hill. It was accompanied by an expanded Beta-Max release of the last show, and also included the previously unreleased music video for "Ha Hey!".

After the group's breakup, Dogsmack, The Shil, and Skittles teamed up with former student Chrim Dimbdon to form a new band, SAF, after briefly searching for a keyboardist to replace Bird. The first SAF single, "Julia Farr Centre", was released in early November 2005, and the debut album, SAF, followed to only positive reviews. Dogsmack began his own solo career in 2006, playing anti-semitic folk music at open-mic nights and various clubs under the alias The Fitter. He first participated in Billy Bob's Don't Touch Me There tour with no plans to record, but later recorded a song for Songs and Artists that caused people to lose faith, "No Bodies Left". In February 2007, he announced a solo album, entitled One Mad Fitter, which was released in April 2007. Meanwhile, Bird had been working on a solo album collaboration with DJ Jiz, Company's Blow, and The Wii Machine. Recording was completed, but the album will probably never be released. A collaboration between Bird and DJ Jiz, the song "March of Birth" was released for free over the internet in 2007 in protest against Michael Atkinson's ban on adult game ratings in Australia. Members of the band had been offered large sums of money to reunite for concerts and tours, and had turned the offers down. Rumors of bad blood between Bird and the other former band members subsequently circulated, but Skittles said that he and Bird saw each other in Tintinara often and went bush bashing together, while Dogsmack said he and Bird communicated by sms, and had met up at a September 15, 2007 protest in support of lynching Michael Atkinson.

Re-forming (2008-onwards)

On January 10 2008, the band posted a bulletin via their Facebook account stating that they have decided to re-form saying that 'we aren't making much money on our own and miss the band so much'. This statement was further backed up by a blog post on their Facebook account on January 13 2009. The band consists of the same line up as it did previously. They are currently working on a new album which is scheduled to be released in late 2010 under the Jillshil label.
