Would you like to write Wikipedia?
We are Wikimedia New York City, the local Chapter of the Wikimedia Movement. We are a few of the millions worldwide who edit Wikipedia and related projects. We are New Yorkers or nearby, who want to help others learn how to edit Wikipedia and otherwise participate. Always we are looking for capable minds and edit-athons are the main way we introduce new editors. That means, a few times a month, experienced editors get together with people who think they have something to contribute.
Anyone with a Web connection can write things in Wikipedia, but so can anyone else, which means anyone can add and subtract words. The millions of editors do just that, so usually Wikipedia gets about a hundred changes a minute. That means we have to collaborate to make sense of millions of articles. We must invent standards and usual practices to determine what is good and ought to survive. Most of the rules were agreed years ago, but there's always something changing since the rules are also editable.
