CollarFree is an online fashion community where creative people from around the world come together to collaborate on ideas, design unique products, and determine the next trends. CollarFree was launched in 2008 in San Diego, California.[1]

In late 2008, CollarFree hosted design competitions to support local charities and events that wanted to engage their fans. These organizations included charities like Toys for Tots and independent competitions for the Obama McCain Design Competition on Zazzle for the 2008 Presidential Campaigns. [2]

The Obama McCain Design Campaign launched in early 2008 and gave artists and designers from around the country the opportunity to create T-shirts for either candidate. The best shirts were then voted on by the public and the best were designed and sold on the Zazzle storefront. The campaign, a decidedly social media take on fashion and politics, earned CollarFree a Best of San Diego 2008 award for "Best Way to Give Power to the People." [3]

Their competitions, ranging from basic weekly competitions on their site, to the Obama McCain Design Competition, Toys for Tots, and more, paid off and the public took notice. In November, OMG Tees named CollarFree one of the twelve best T-shirt design competitions Internationally. [4]

$200 may not be the biggest prize on offer here - but the vs style voting is nice. I just say which of 2 designs I like best - so the best should spill to the top - voting is the most fun of all the comp sites in my opinion. - OMG Tees, November 2008

Expansion

edit

In 2009, CollarFree created Artistic Hub, a corporation focusing efforts on a custom design competition platform. Artistic Hub creates interactive campaigns to engage customers and fans by coupling custom built design competition applications with on-demand printing.

Both CollarFree and Artistic Hub, owned by Collar Free, Inc. support many charities, including formal support to the environmental organization, 1% for the Planet where Collar Free donates 1% of combined sales from both businesses annually.
