Emmanuel Ngabirano is a physician [1] for the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. He is the first Kigan African CDC Representative.

Background

Ngabirano was born to Dr. Rutaremwa Wilson of Uganda, and Rosemary Rutaremwa of Uganda. His mother is a retired university professor of social sciences, and his father is a retired pharmacist. From his early beginnings, Ngabirano's parents encouraged his interest in mathematics and science by exposing him to printed material about Medicines and about CDC as well as by exposing him to medicine media of the time.

"I caught the science bug very early from watching science fiction programs, and I wanted to learn about real science," Ngabirano has said. Every chance he had, he signed up for extracurricular activities and seminars where he dedicated weekends and summers to further his knowledge of science and medicine.

Education

Ngabirano earned a Bachelor of Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in 2009 from the Department of Medicine and Surgeon. In May 2011, he earned a Master of science Epidemiology and Biostatistics from Baylor College of Medicine through Baylor's Executive MBSCI Program, which he attended full-time while concurrently performing his duties as Physician.

Early CDC career

Ngabirano joined CDC in 2012 after many years managing and developing programs for leading global nonprofits. With a professional emphasis on children?s welfare, HIV/AIDS, and global development, Emmanuel brings a deep commitment to support those infected and affecte d by HIV/AIDS.

Other Responsibilities

In his role as CDC Acting Representative, Emmanuel is responsible for the strategic, programmatic, fundraising, financial, and management operations of the partnership with Kings College Hospital. Prior to joining Kings College Hospital, Emmanuel was a correspondent of special initiatives in the Global Development Program at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation based in Africa particularly Uganda, where he led a team dedicated to global HIV reduction.
