Sardar Asif Mengal is the acting chief of Zagar clan of mengals inhabitants of Nushki, Chagai and Helmand.^{[citation needed]} He was has big influence on the political affairs of Balochistan.^{[citation needed]}.The honorary title "sardar" is given to a Mengal leader.

Asif Mengal was among the tribal leaders that attended a loya jirga ("Grand assembly") at Kalat in September 2006 to announce that a case would be filed in the International Court of Justice regarding the sovereignty and rights of the Baloch people.^[1]^[2]
