The gray ceiling is a business/societal phenomenon much like the glass ceiling, that seperates people in the work place and makes it harder for one particular group to work over another group. In this case the dilemma pertains to a generational gap in the work place, from the baby boomer generation to the Generation X kids. Due to the ressecion people are forced to stay at their jobs longer than they normally would, therefore it's harder to hire new employees coming fresh out of college. "But those aging, baby boomers just don’t seem to want to move on with their lives.  Whether it’s their workaholic nature or the need for money, they are not leaving the workplace as quickly as anticipated" (Wolfe). This makes it very difficult for graduate students to find a job with a good salary. The other part of the gray ceiling is not only is it hard for the Gen Xer's to find a job, because of the baby boomers, ut they're also getting beat out of a job by millenials as well. The reason the millenials have an advantage is, because they're more technologically advanced than the Gen Xer's. "Even more insulting, Millennials are like heat seeking missiles for knowledge.  Why waste no time going to his or her Gen X boss when they have a question. They just go straight to the best source by sending an email or knocking on the door of the President. This group is used to quick access to information. Why go to the library and borrow the book when you can "google" just about anything?" (Wolfe).
