Early Life

edit

Patrick Joseph Kelly was born on 11 November, 1897 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He had one brother and two sisters. His father was Joseph Kelly, whom was born in Draperstown, County Derry/Londonderry, to Patrick John Kelly and Mary Kelly née Quigley. His mother was Mary Ellen Kelly née Small, whom was born in Dundrum, County Down, to William Small and Margaret Small née Bannon.

His father Joseph was a very strong, determined and hard working man. He had many occupations during his lifetime, some of which include marine fireman, publican, rougher, sailor.

Involvement with the Dunville Family

edit

Patrick Joseph Kelly was a chauffeur for the Dunville family. He also had other jobs which he carried out around the Dunville house.

One time Patrick was cleaning the Rolls Royce in his garage and he got a phone call from somebody at the Dunville estate. They told him to quickly arrive at the house as Violet was almost ready to go. Patrick had only one side of the Rolls Royce cleaned and the other side was dirty however he thought if he was quick enough, he could drive around the fountain before Violet left the house, showing the clean side of the car. Patrick arrived at the Dunville house, got out of the Rolls Royce and opened the door for Violet. She got in and he handed her a blanket to keep her warm. He closed the door, got into the car and off they went. He thought that he had got away with it until Violet said "What happened to the car?". Patrick quickly looked at her with guilt. Luckily the Dunville's were very kind people and Patrick never got the sack.

Ironically, Patrick was quite a reckless driver.

Later Life

edit

After the Dunville family came to a tragic end, Patrick began working at a ship yard.
