Col. Kiliaen van Rensselaer - (1717 - 28 Dec 1781) - A farmer and landlord who, in January 1742 married Ariaantje (Harriet) Schuyler(b:1720-d:1763), who came from Schenectady. Both were members of the Albany Dutch church[1] where nine of their children were baptized. He was a member of the Committee of Correspondence and Colonel of the 4th Regiment, Albany County Militia during the American Revolution. Years after the death of his first wife, Kiliaen was almost 52 - in 1769 he married Maria Low of New Jersey.

Kiliaen Van Rensselaer was wounded in the battle of Saratoga during a conflict against Burgoyne, and General Washington paid him the highest compliment upon his courage. [2]

George W. Schuyler wrote in: Colonial New York - "...eighteen males, sixteen belonged to Hendrick Van Rensselaer's branch, and of these, five were of Kiliaen Van Rensselaer's family."[3]
