Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (Translation: Yet The Heart Is Indian) is a patriotic drama-comedy Indian television series that originally aired on DD National between 2003 and 2007 and which not only became Doordarshan’s biggest blockbuster hit in recent times but also is one of the most critically-acclaimed shows of all time.[1][2][3][4]
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani, an eclectic mix of comedy, drama, romance, patriotism and slice-of-life genres is a landmark show in Indian television history as it does not play by the rules by conforming to any of the existing genres of television but, on the contrary, changes the rules of game by creating a genre of its own.[5]
Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani is created by Nirja Guleri,[6] an acclaimed Indian woman achiever, who came into the limelight by virtue of being the first-ever Indian woman director to shoot an epic film or television series on such a grand scale when she wielded the megaphone for the colossal blockbuster fantasy extravaganza, Chandrakanta.[7] Nirja Guleri is also famous for her knack of introducing trail-blazing new genres on television which include India’s first-ever Saas-Bahu (Translation: Mother-in-law – Daughter-in-law) show Tu Tu Main Main,[8] India’s first-ever Fantasy-Comedy franchise Gharwali Uparwali and India’s first-ever Daily Sitcom Hum Saath Aath Hain, all of which are major landmarks in the history of Indian Television. Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani is written and directed by the award winning director, Shrey Guleri.[9]
