NOVA Roller Derby is a flat track roller derby league, located in Loudoun County, VA.
History
editNOVA Roller Derby was founded in April 2011 by skaters Debi Does Dulles and Slade Ripfire[1]. The first meeting of the league was April 20th, 2011 at the Douglass Community Center Skate Rink. The league was founded with the vision of being entirely run by volunteers, and with a focus on community involvement and improvement. The organization held their first public bout October 1st, 2011 vs. the Black Eyed Suzies from Montgomery County, MD[2].
Teams
editThe league currently has five teams. The four home teams are Backwoods Rollers, Vineyard Vixens, Beltway Betties, Metro Misfits. The league's fifth team is the Super NOVAs which serve as the all-star traveling team
Seasons
editSeason 1 spanned March - November, 2012. The season consisted of a mix of formats - hosting away teams (with the travel team named the "Skate Troopers" during this time period), and home teams (Backwoods Rollers, Beltway Betties, Vineyard Vixens) competing for the championship[3].
Season 2 spanned March - November 2013, and followed the same format as season 1[4].
Season 3 spans March - November, 2014 and was split into two halves - first with the newly rebranded SuperNOVAs travel team, and then the second half all home team bouts, featuring the newest home team the Metro Misfits.
