About Me
editMy pronouns are she/her/hers/herself and I am in my roaring twenties. I go by Idalia on the internet, especially regarding my activity relating to ancient Greece broadly. I am a seeker and transmitter of knowledge, and I aspire to leave this world more beautiful, fulfilling, knowledgeable, fair, and compassionate than it was when I entered. I am only fluent in English, however I have been studying both Greek (ancient Attic as well as modern Greek) and Swedish for a few years. It should be noted that my ancient Greek skills are much more advanced than my Swedish.
Religion
editI am a Hellenic Polytheist who is particularly interested in the religious practices of the classical era and prior. I do not believe in the Reconstructionist/Revivalist dichotomy within polytheistic communities and have come to understand that it only hurts us to divide ourselves. Both historical understandings and modern interpretations are integral to religion. Personally, researching the history of my religion is a hobby and hyperfixation. I am especially fascinated by the oldest, littlest-known individuals and practices, although most of my knowledge is from Attica mostly due to the lack of writings from elsewhere. I enjoy compiling my research on any of the daímones, festivals, artifacts, and writings of ancient Greece. One of my most controversial religious views, which is largely informed by my political views, is that I do not accept hierarchy. I do not see any god as being above or more worthy of reverence than another.
Activism
editPolitical, economic, social, and educational inequalities are plagues upon this world, and I have sworn to implement the cure as quickly as possible. Poverty, hunger, homelessness, disease, and lack of education are all choices... made by the ruling classes: the politicians and the other wealthy people in their pockets. We should no longer accept these choices to be made by people who only seek to protect themselves. Not all of my views on the world can be concisely described by any one existing term, so I have created a new identity with which I identify: hedonistic socialism. This means that I believe that the desire for pleasure and comfort is fundamental to creating the best world possible for each human being, but reject the notion that my individual pleasure is the sole purpose of my life. I would prefer to experience suffering if I knew that it made those around me happier or safer, because to me the pleasure of the community is the objective.
THE REVOLUTION STARTS WITH YOU.
