Halifax Jazz Festival

The Halifax Jazz Festival, formerly known as the Atlantic Jazz Festival is the oldest jazz festival and largest summer festival in Atlantic Canada. The festival attracts up to 65,000 visitors, involving 400 volunteers and employs over 350 local musicians. The Halifax ·Jazz Festival will take place from July 9th–14th 2024.

History

The Halifax Jazz Festival, formed as JazzEast Rising is a non-profit organization created in 1987 to present the first ever Halifax Jazz Festival. The HJF has been formed 33 times since 1987. It takes place in the summer time around July.

The "Susan Hunter Award" identifies a proven leader in the Halifax Arts Community - a person who demonstrates leadership, passion, and commitment to support, strengthen, and further improve the local arts community.


David Jones award

The "David Jones Award" is presented by the Halifax Jazz Festival to uphold how important the roles of volunteers take place in the successes of the festival. The award was named in honor of the event Manager David Jones, who retired in 2019. David Jones for years dedicated many hours to maintain high standards in music presentation. The award focuses on highlighting similar feats.
