Defence

edit

The armed forces of Albania are organised into air, land and naval units, each committed to the defense of Albania's sovereignty and territorial integrity.[1] By aligning their objectives with broader priorities, the forces emphasise the paramount importance of safeguarding Albanian interests, enhancing the sense of national identity, and actively contributing to policies aimed at achieving sustainable regional prosperity and stability.[2][3] This commitment is particularly noteworthy given Albania's transformation from a Warsaw Pact and Eastern Bloc country to a member of NATO, demonstrating its adherence to collective security and partnerships with Western allies. Furthermore, the armed forces have implemented substantial reforms aimed at modernisation and professionalisation since joining the organisation in 2009. Their dedication to regional cooperation is instrumental for the country's accession into Euro-Atlantic organizations, as evidenced by their proactive involvement in international missions.[4]
