Layoffs of greater than one year between seasons/series are much more common in European television – e.g. Doctor Who (Seasons 22 ➝ 23: approx. 1 year, 6 months), Sherlock (all 4 Series!), Red Dwarf (e.g. Series 6 ➝ 7: 3 years, 3 months), Lovejoy (Series 1 ➝ 2: approx. 4 years, 9 months(!)), Les Revenants (Seasons 1 ➝ 2: 2 years, 10 months), Rita (all 3 seasons), etc.
