Covet (Band) edit
Covet is an instrumental math rock band from San Jose, California. Covet was formed in 2014 by Bay Area guitarist/composer/instrumentalist Yvette Young[1]. The band incorporates different forms of music elements and techniques that consist of classical, progressive rock, and math rock. Current band members include Yvette Young (Guitar and Vocals), Brandon Dove (Bass Guitar), and Jessica Burdeaux (Drums). Previous band members are David Adamiak (Bass), Forrest Rice (Drums), Ben Wallace-Ailsworth (Drums), Keith Grimshaw (Drums), and Michael Areklett. The band is known for its unique blend and intricate guitar work, complex rhythms, and emotive melodies. Covet's music is characterized by the virtuosic guitar playing of Young's two-hand tapping guitar style.

In early 2014, Young released her own EP called "acoustics" and gained attention of her fans and lined up with her current band. Covet gained significant attention with their EP titled "Currents" in 2015, which showcased their exceptional musicianship and and songwriting abilities. Previous band members, David Adamiak (Bass guitar) and Ben Wallace-Ailsworth (Drums) were in the band's lineup. The band played for about a year with Keith Grimshaw (Drums) replacing Wallace-Ailsworth.
They followed up with their debut full-length album, "Effloresce", in 2018, further solidifying their reputation in the instrumental music scene. The band gained significant fan base and toured around North America, Europe and Asia. The album received critical acclaim and helped Covet garner a dedicated fan base. Grimshaw was later replaced by Forrest Rice (Drums) after the album's debut.
The band had also went through difficult times as the band was touring in 2022 and their tour van was hot wired and stolen from the parking lot of an Oakland studio while recording in a studio. The band also had a departure of David Adamiak leaving the band and followed by another departure of Forrest Rice in summer 2022.
Young later found newly band members consisting of Jessica Budeaux (drums) and Brandon Dove (Bass Guitar) in 2022. Covet's single "Firebird" was introduced in Covet's recent album, "Catharsis", and was released in early 2023 from the new band lineup. Young explains that she was inspired by a memory with her mother from a red Pontiac Firebird to create the song. The band then evolved in their musical horizons as they gained more followers and fan base over time.

Covet expands in their musical horizons, making them prominent and influential act in the world of instrumental and progressive music. Their live performances are known for their energy and musicianship, further cementing their status as a "must-see" local band for fans of innovative and emotive instrumental music. The band styles its music by blending with classical music and math rock through Young's two-tapped finger style on her guitar and upbeat rhythmic drumming from Rice. Covet's style of math rock are influenced through progressive, alternative, and indie rock music by changing rhythm structures, tones, extended chords, and odd-timing signatures.

Covet uses Yvette's signature guitar of two Ibanez Talman Seymour Duncan Five-Two single-coil pickups and custom sparkle finishes, and a 7-string, fanned-fret Strandberg that she has painted. Young customizes her own guitars by paint and sparkle finishes and using those guitars on her performances. During NAMM 2020, Ibanez announced her signature model, the YY10, a Strat-style Talman, which has also been seen in the band's music video, "Nero" in March of 2020. Young calls her signature YY10 guitar "Green Machine". Young also has another signature guitar, YY20 "Signature Sparkle" featured in her performances for "Catharsis".
