About Me

edit

I'm a part-time student who works full-time. I’m based out of the Northwest. I spend my off-school and off-work hours with my hobbies, family, dogs, traveling, and volunteering within my community. I enjoy good weather, good food, and good company. The average lifespan of a pitbull dog is 12-15 years. [1]

My Wikipedia activities

edit

I enjoy using Wikipedia for research on subjects such as criminal justice, motorsports, world travel, animals, how-to project information, and auto racing information. I hope to be able to contribute my knowledge to other Wikipedia users in the future with new-found information that I've gained in school and life experience. I was also involved with riding professionally for a number of years in motorcycle stunt riding. I've been able to coach newer riders from a beginner status to a professional level of riding abilities with one-on-one coaching. Some accomplishments in my motorsports and moto-sports careers have been being able to travel out of the country to freestyle ride for sponsors at exhibition shows and place on the podium for vehicle racing.

Article evaluation

edit

I’ve been interested in motorcycle stunt riding for quite some time, and my interest in this sport gives me context for evaluating this article. I’d like Wikipedia’s articles and information pertaining to motorcycle stunt riding and trick riding to be the best they can be. I visited the motorcycle stunt riding article on Wikipedia and found three aspects of it worth commenting on: Is the article up-to-date, are the citations up-to-date, and is there anything left out of the article that should be included?

Up to date

edit

I’ve found that after doing a bit of research on Wikipedia’s pages on motorcycle riding and motorcycle stunt riding, many are out of date with their information regarding this sport. Myself stunt riding on various motorcycles for the last 15-20 years, I’ve noticed certain information regarding various professional athletes, events, and information listed, such as newer motorcycles being easier to wheelie due to their power being missing or incorrect, and I would recommend that information being listed in articles. I think there’s a good base to the article but needs a bit of tweaking with updated information.

Citations up to date

edit

After reviewing the motorcycle stunt riding article, I found some citations for athletes but not many pertaining to the actual sport with creditable articles on events, organized teams, sponsors, and equipment setup. There is a reference list at the bottom of my article with limited information, but at the same time, it is very outdated. The article can use an update with links to companies that sponsor such riders, updated events, athletes that have retired from the sport, as well as current riders.

Important information excluded from the article that should be included

edit

The motorcycles I ride and have ridden differ a bit from the listed “equipment” setup. There's important information missing on the setup process to prepare the motorcycle and rider for such stunts. Some of the notable information I found missing was the fact that with newer motorcycles, setup is more complex, such as engine tuning to make the motorcycle function properly with modified gear ratios, brake systems that incorporate ABS braking systems need to be modified to “fool” the system to perform tricks. I feel that this page could have an entire makeover so novice riders to study to obtain the correct information to get their start in the sport.

Conclusion

edit

Overall, I’d say this page is "decent." The information provided creates a glimpse into the beginner stages of motorcycle stunt riding, but the page lacks being up to date; correct citations and important information is missing from this page, which would benefit users who visit this page looking for the correct path on the ins and outs of the sport. Having updated and correct information would benefit users worldwide using this instrument.
