Tiger Toast
editTiger Toast or Stripey Animal Toast, is a typical Australian savoury recipe made with vegemite and cheese on toast(link). It was originally made popular by the childrens telivsion show Play School when presenter Justine Clarke(link & citation) demonstrated how to make it during Series 225: Elephants, on Tuesday the 28th of November 2006(citation). This however, was not the origin of tiger toast, as it can be traced back further to ABC Radio Far West and "Dion's Tiger Toast"(Citation), which was given as a half-time snack during a football match(citation).
Playschool Episode
editTiger Toast, was created during a session entitled "Colourful Bread" and has since captured the imagination of many children now grown in to adults(citation regedit). It has since been utilised on several websites(citation citation citation) with differing variation on the base ingredients but similar methods of creation.
Tiger Toast Popularity
editIn 2006 a survey was conducted of the Australian population and their consumation of vegemite, and in 2008 the results were published online(citation). Tiger Toast ranked 6th of all submissions and of those participants who would be associated with watching playschool, school children and teens, 49.1% and 45.8% respectively responded they would prefer tiger toast.(citation).
