Biography

edit

Filípková was born with severe cerebral palsy. In the 1990s, she began to develop with the support of the Spirit Society. A meeting with the artist Otto Kouwen, who works with disabled artists, was a decisive moment: He invited Dagmar Filípková to the Inventura association, then in 2013-2020 he involved her in the activities of the Joyful Creation Studio - where Dagmar Filípková continues to attend - and from 2021 he gives her space in the shared studio of the Barvolam Association.

Work

edit

Despite her mental handicap, Filípková became an actress, an artist, and wrote autobiographical prose[1]. She also participates in the work of the Ujeto[2]Theatre, where she played a central role in the performance Dáša wake up (2013) and performs in other repertoire:

She plays the bar singer Doña Kasacíra in Cabaret at the End of the World, Boubelka in The Eater of Corpses, and a proper hatchet woman, the hatchet man's wife, in the new family fairy tale How the Hitchhiker Tricked the Devil.

She also goes to the sheltered workshop Gaiwan, where she works with wool and other materials. In the Joyful Creation Studio, she creates paintings primarily based on oil pastels.[3]

Several documentaries have been made about her, including Dáša or Artbrutem ke štěstí (Dáša or Artbrutem to Happiness) produced by Czech Television (2023, directed by Jolana Matějková)[4] and a film portrait for an exhibition in Litoměřice (2024, directed by Karel Čtveráček).

In the Studio of Joyful Creation she creates paintings mainly based on oil pastels.[5]

Exhibitions

edit

Filípková has had a number of solo and joint exhibitions, the most important of which was held under the title Pilgrimage to the Krkonoše Mountains and Other Landscapes at the SGVÚ in Litoměřice (February - May 2024).[6] She is represented by the Art Brut Gallery Prague.
