Jay Irvin is a corporate trainer, author, entrepreneur, and police officer for the City of Hillsboro, OR. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from Saint Leo University in 1985, where he was a member of the Delta Epsilon Sigma national scholastic honor society. In 1990 he earned a Master of Public Administration in Organization and Management from Golden Gate University. In 1997 he was awarded his Doctorate of Philosophy in Human Behavior Psychology from Saybrook Graduate School.
Jay Irvin served in the US Air Force as an enlisted law enforcement specialist from 1980 - 1986 and was selected to attend USAF Officer Training School. Jay was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant (01) in the Air Force in 1986 as a security police officer and served as an officer until 1991 when he was honorably discharged as an Air Force Captain (03). He served in Desert Storm's "area of responsibility" from August 1990 until February 1991. Jay completed the Dynamics of International Terrorism (DIT) and Counter-Insurgency (COIN) schools delivered by US Air Force Special Operations School, Hurlburt Field, FL.
Irvin authored "How to Live Like You Were Dying" and edited "Fire Your Doctor!".
Irvin owned and operated numerous restaurants, lounges and food operations.
Irvin was a professional member of National Speakers Association (NSA) from 1995 - 2006. He began his professional corporate trainer career with Fred Pryor Seminars in 1995 and continued contracting with CareerTracks until 2000. Irvin contracted with Rockhurst University and National Seminars as a trainer from 2001 until 2008. Irvin is considered an expert in human behavior psychology.
Irvin was hired by the City of Hillsboro, Police Department in 2011 as a Police Service Specialist (PSS) and was promoted to Police Officer in July 2012. Irvin earned Oregon's DPSST Advanced Police Officer Certification in April 2013.
Jay Irvin was born July 19, 1960 as James William Irvin in Lexington, North Carolina to Dollie and James Thomas Irvin. Dollie (nie Easter) was a home-maker. His father was a laborer in manufacturing. Jay said his upbringing was "hyper-conservative fundamentalist" and he was expected to be a "preacher". Jay has one sister (Ruth Lucia Zuniga b.1955) by the same mother, but different father.
Irvin is married to the former Margaret Armstrong (m. July 2014). This is his third marriage. He was formerly married to Elizabeth Jordan (1981-1986) and Krista D. Kohl (1991-1996). He is the father of a daughter (b.1991) with Kohl.
