The status of the customs road has been established by the « Convention franco-suisse relative à la construction et à l’exploitation de l’aéroport de Bâle-Mulhouse, à Blotzheim » (the French-Swiss agreement relative to the construction and usage of the Basel-Mulhouse airport in Blotzheim) concluded in 1949. The road has been opened in 1953.

Status

The airport and road are separated by a fence from the rest of the French customs territory. The road belongs to the sector of the airport which is affiliated with the Swiss services. The French and Swiss authorities ensure a joint police control on this road. There are neither police nor customs checks performed on the road giving access to the airport at the French-Swiss border. Both governments still retain the right to perform checks if special circumstances justify it.
