What is the lesson goal(s)?
To be able to understand how the english came to form to how it is today.
What are the objectives for each unit/day?
Dissect the formation and creation:
- History/Geographical distribution
- Vocabulary/Grammar
- Writing system
- Start essay
- Edit essay
How will you introduce the topic to them?
I will start the class with a brief explanation on what they are expected to do. As well as point them in the right diction on where they should be researching their topic.
What materials will students need?
They will require tablets or computer to so the research on. If not available a computer with printing abilities.
What will you do to close or review the lesson?
I will have them write a 2-3 page essay about what they learned.
For homework: For each for the 3 research nights they are required to finish a works cited page for homework. On the 4th night they have to attempt to finish the essay for the next class. On the 5th night they will have to finish what they have not done, as well as do the edits and revisions that were suggested.
Day 1: They will research the history and geographical distribution of the English Language using various articles on wikipedia.
Day 2: They will research how the vocabulary and grammar of the English Language came to be.
Day 3: They will research how the writing system for the english language has evolved over time.
Day 4: They will start the essay that they have been researching for.
Day 5: They will work together with 1-2 partners to edit what they have of their essay.
