Georg Viktor was raised in Ludwigshafen am Rhein. In 1976 he finished "Staatliche Hochschule für Musik in Heidelberg-Mannheim" and in 1978 a stone mason apprenticeship at Volker Dursy in Ladenburg. Since 1979 he works as stone manson and moved to Pietrasanta nearby the Carrara marble quarries. In the Studio Ferdinando Palla he studies the special technics to archive excellence in working on marble skuptures.

Since his first solo exhibition in Germany in 1981, Viktor has presented his oeuvre in symposia and solo exhibitions. His works can also be seen in the permanent exhibition at Louis Meisel, which has established itself after the exhibition in New York in 1996.

Works

edit

In his extensive sculptural work, Viktor places the perfectly modeled, preferably female body in the foreground, often with accentuating accessories. He puts the focus on the erotic charisma of the body and combines contemporary views and topics with sculptural references from Greco-Roman antiquity. His realistic, sculptural technique is based on the precise representation of the human anatomy. He typically implements feminine motifs with modern, fashionable patterns that are reminiscent of ancient Greco-Roman sculptures, the caryatids[1].

Georg Viktor, is influenced by the style of hyperrealism, using the sculptural techniques of marble, from traditional to modern. The material itself is supposed to create the illusion of reality. By perfecting the marble finishing techniques, he achieves hyper-realistic effects of bare skin, clothing, jeans or leather on black marble. He works out his sculptures in sandstone and limestone as well as in clay and bronze. His preferred material is Carrara marble, from whose historical wealth he draws inspiration.

He places supernatural eroticism in the focus of the sculptures, about which the artist himself writes “Eroticism in art has existed for as long as art itself” and adds “My sculptures are not only there to be looked at, but also to be grasped with hands and felt by ones senses." The interest in his works is reflected in numerous symposia, exhibitions, galleries and goes far beyond private art lovers. Some of Viktor's marble sculptures are found are in public space, such as the stele for Osthofen or the arrangement of the rape of Europa by Zeus in Leingarten.
