History edit

Fussballclub Altdorf was founded in Juni 1916 in the Restaurant Schützenmatt in Altdorf by a dozen of local football enthusiasts; shortly after, on July 8, 1916, it played its first match, a friendly fixture against FC Schwyz, which ended with a 2-1 vicory for Altdorf.[1] On 7 April 1918 Altdorf, together with FC Luzern, SC Cham, Kickers Luzern, Excelsior Zug and FC Schwyz, became a founding member of the Innerschweizerischer Fussballverband (English: Inner Switzerland Football Association).[1] After running into financial troubles in 1919 and being inactive till 1923, the club was reactivated in 1923, finished runner-up in the top-tier league of the IFV-Leage and could also participate in the third-tier Swiss league next year.[1][2]

FC Altdorf also won the football cup of the IFV in 2017 after facing FC Littau in the final: the match was drawn 1-1 at full-time and 2-2 after extra-time; Altdorf could clinch the title after winning the penalty shoot-out 7-6.[3] Due to its cup win, the club could participate in the 2017–18 version of the Swiss Cup, being eliminated by Servette in the first round after a 0–6 home defeat.[4]
